Heaven Registered You Before Earth Ever Met You
Last Sunday evening at Beyond’s Coffee Shop Sunday, the conversation about covenant didn’t end. It continued to unfold.
Earlier that morning, Pastor B had revealed that the Church was never God’s backup plan. It has always been Heaven’s strategy for the earth — a people through whom God advances His purposes.
Sunday evening picked up that thread by exploring another profound question.
If the Church is Heaven’s strategy… what actually happened when you became part of it?
For many believers, the answer seems obvious.
“I got saved.”
“I became a Christian.”
“I joined a church.”
Yet Gabe suggested Scripture tells a far greater story.
One that began long before we ever walked through the doors of a church.
Long before we first responded to the Gospel.
Long before we were even born.
YOUR STORY DID NOT BEGIN WHEN YOU FOUND GOD
Modern Christianity often tells the story of humanity searching for God.
The Bible tells the story of God searching for humanity.
From the opening pages of Scripture, Heaven always moves first.
Adam hid.
God came looking.
Israel wandered.
God pursued.
Humanity rebelled.
God sent His Son.
That same pattern appears in Hebrews 12, where believers are described as those who have come to “the general assembly and church of the firstborn, who are registered in heaven.”
Gabe paused on one word.
Registered.
Not recently added.
Not accidentally included.
Registered.
The implication is staggering.
Perhaps salvation is not Heaven scrambling to accommodate our decision.
Perhaps it is Heaven unfolding a purpose that already existed in eternity.
Our desire for God did not surprise Him.
It was evidence that He had been pursuing us all along.
Perhaps the greatest miracle is not simply that we chose Him.
It is that He first chose to reveal Himself to us.
THE CHURCH EXISTS IN TWO WORLDS AT ONCE
That revelation naturally raises another question.
What is the Church?
For many people, church is still a building.
A gathering.
A Sunday service.
An event.
Hebrews presents something far greater.
When believers gather, they come to Mount Zion.
The city of the living God.
An innumerable company of angels.
The assembly of Heaven itself.
The Church is therefore not simply people meeting on earth. It is Heaven’s assembly expressing itself through people on earth.
Every gathering exists in two realities at once.
One visible.
One invisible.
That changes everything.
Church is no longer simply somewhere we attend.
It becomes something in which we participate.
Not spectators occupying seats.
Citizens participating in Heaven’s government.
COVENANT CHANGED EVERYTHING
This revelation continued Pastor B’s teaching on covenant.
Under the old covenant, God’s law was written on stone.
Under the new covenant, He promises something entirely different.
“I will put My laws in their minds and write them on their hearts.”
Christianity is therefore not sustained by external obligation.
It is sustained by internal transformation.
God is no longer speaking from a distance.
Through His Spirit, He now speaks from within.
The Christian life has never primarily been about behaviour modification.
It has always been about transformed identity born out of intimate relationship.
GOD IS MORE EAGER TO REVEAL HIMSELF THAN WE ARE TO FIND HIM
Many believers quietly wonder whether God really wants to speak.
Sunday evening challenged that assumption.
The New Covenant exists because God has committed Himself to making Himself known.
The invitation is not to persuade God to come near.
It is to recognise that He already has.
Perhaps the question is no longer,
“Will God speak?”
But rather,
“Am I positioned to hear?”
THE BLOOD IS STILL SPEAKING
One of the evening’s most profound moments centred on something many believers rarely consider.
The blood of Jesus still has a voice.
Hebrews says it “speaks better things.”
Where accusation speaks condemnation…
The blood declares mercy.
Where guilt rehearses failure…
The blood proclaims forgiveness.
Where the enemy reminds believers of yesterday…
The covenant continually reminds Heaven of Christ’s finished work.
The cross was never simply an event in history.
Its voice still speaks today.
And covenant still has the final word.
HEAVEN NEVER EXPECTED YOU TO BUILD ALONE
Hebrews also describes “an innumerable company of angels.”
Far from poetic imagery, Gabe suggested this reveals something deeply practical.
God has never expected His people to fulfil Kingdom assignments through natural strength alone.
Heaven supplies supernatural partnership.
The Kingdom has always advanced through willing people working in partnership with Heaven’s unseen assistance.
The Church was never intended to operate with earthly resources alone.
YOUR LIFE IS WRITING A TESTIMONY
Moving into Hebrews 11, Gabe reflected on the extraordinary men and women of faith.
They subdued kingdoms.
Established righteousness.
Obtained promises.
Endured suffering.
Finished faithfully.
Yet Scripture says many never received the fullness of what they anticipated because God’s story would continue through future generations.
The implication is deeply personal.
Every generation receives its own invitation.
Every believer contributes another chapter.
Every life leaves a testimony.
The question is not simply what blessings we receive.
It is what evidence of God’s Kingdom will remain because we lived.
FAITH WAS NEVER DESIGNED TO BUILD A SMALL LIFE
Pastor B closed out the evening by returning to one unforgettable phrase.
“Through faith they subdued kingdoms.”
Kingdoms.
Not comfort.
Not convenience.
Kingdoms.
He challenged Beyond to reconsider the scale of its faith.
Too often our prayers revolve around personal breakthrough.
The next bill.
The next promotion.
The next opportunity.
Necessary prayers.
But perhaps incomplete ones.
What if faith was never primarily given so we could build a better life?
What if faith exists so Heaven can build something far greater through us?
Rather than asking only what we want God to provide, Pastor B challenged the room to begin asking what God wants to accomplish through our lives.
Throughout Hebrews 11, faith is never celebrated for making life easier.
It is celebrated for advancing Heaven’s purpose.
REGISTERED BEFORE YOU ARRIVED
As the evening ended, Pastor B reminded Beyond that revelation was never meant to remain in the room where it was received.
It must become a way of living.
The church was encouraged to return to the Scriptures throughout the week, allowing Sunday’s revelation to become Monday’s reality.
It was a fitting conclusion to a weekend that continually lifted everyone’s eyes beyond themselves.
Because if the Church truly is Heaven’s strategy…
If believers really are registered in Heaven…
If covenant has bound God to His people…
If Heaven is advancing its Kingdom through ordinary men and women…
Then Christianity can never remain a private experience.
It was never designed to produce spectators.
It was designed to raise Kingdom builders.
People who understand they were known before they were born.
Called before they responded.
Registered before they arrived.
And sent into the world to reveal the Kingdom they have already entered.
